Below are a couple of tests, made with the new video camcorder. First was made by TC while waiting for his plane to come over to Prague.
The second one I made with the camera late yesterday afternoon, on a very sweltering day in Prague.
First the camcorder was not HD as I thought it was when I clicked ‘buy’ at Amazon. Went back, the camera I intended to buy is exactly the same, only HD, and double price. I’m not so unhappy as the price of the HD iteration was something like exactly double. Converting HD for use on the Internet might have been a lot of fun to play with for a few days, but is a lot more work. That would have gotten old after a few days.
This camera is very good. The quality is quite good and videos are recorded to flash memory, instead of tape. In theory this should mean the camera will last a lot longer that a tape based or Hard Drive. No heads to wear out, and not hard drive to break. Plus, there is no capturing, only transferring files to computer. The bad news is: To edit the files they have to be converted to a format that editing software can read. The good news is: Converting (Rendering) the files does not take nearly as long as I thought it would, and is still much less hassle than capturing to the computer from tape.
Sorry for this esoteric discussion, but technical really gives me a stiffy!
